Service- Learning and the Performing Arts – Promoting Literacy through Storytelling

This discussion will feature a service-learning class in Clemson’s Performing Arts Department that is partnering with a 4K class at Central Elementary to promote literacy through theatrical performances of selections from children’s books in the 4K classroom. Presenters: Prof. Kerrie Seymour teaches acting and Theatre Appreciation in the Department of Performing Arts. She has a Master of Fine Arts degree in Acting from Trinity Repertory ConservatoryRhode Island College and a Bachelor of Arts degree in JournalismMass Communication from St. Bonaventure University. While in Rhode Island, Prof. Seymour founded her own theatre company, Three Strange Angels, which garnered acclaim for its inventive production of Oscar Wilde’s “An Ideal Husband.” She has also performed at theatres in Washington DC, Virginia, Greenville, Spartanburg, and Clemson SC. In addition to teaching at Clemson University Prof. Seymour and has taught at the University of South Carolina-Upstate in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She is a member of Actor’s Equity Association Rebekah Swygert is a Senior Performing Arts Major.
