Clemson Provost Bob Jones said that Clemson, like many other universities, wants to recognize doctoral graduates with a separate hooding ceremony, which will allow students and their friends and families to mark this important event with a more intimate ceremony than the larger, general commencement ceremony. “Every Clemson degree is important and well worth celebrating,” Jones said. “We just want to acknowledge the extraordinary commitment it takes to earn a doctorate.”
A hooding ceremony is much like a traditional graduation, where Ph.D. graduates have the hood from the official academic regalia placed over their shoulders by a faculty member as a symbol of their achievement.
